"Author Anna Quindlen reminds us not to rush past the fleeting moments. She said: “The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less”(Loud and Clear [2004], 10–11).
"Starting today I am going to be better. I never had a basket-head mother, and I AM NOT GOING TO BE A BASKET-HEAD MOTHER! I am going to listen, love, communicate, cherish, enjoy, teach, preach and prepare my children. Time for everything else later."
--as posted on the NieNie Dialogues website by Stephanie Clark Nielson
I am not at all an original person. So with that said, I, too, am going to make the same pledge to "listen, love, communicate, cherish, enjoy, teach and prepare my children." I spend too much time just trying to "make it through" each day. I will definitely take time to notice the little things and take them all in. (Like the way my son's little cheeks vibrate when he runs excitedly to see his father when he comes home from work--so endearing.) Time is so fleeting.
Here is my favorite "Aubrynn-ism" for the day:
Me: Are you bringing your stroller up the stairs?
Aubrynn: Well, actually, i am.
(where did she learn that?)

Meridyth, I look forward each day to your blog, especially this one! Sometimes we all need to be reminded to slow down and take it all in!! Before you know it, they will be all grown and we wll have forgotten about all the bad days and wishing we could have them back to do over again. I just want you to know that I APPRECIATE, MISS and LOVE you. I am so glad that there are others out there that feel the same as I do. I wish we lived closer. (Can you believe I am saying this, after all we have been through?) Time changes all! Thanks!
